Unlike the sakura (cherry blossom) in Kyoto and Tokyo which typically blooming around late March and April, you also can enjoy sakura viewing as early as February. The 8,000 sakura trees in Kawazu, a town in Shizuoka Prefecture are some of the greatest spots in Japan. The outstanding characteristics of Kawazu-zakura are its large petals and the bright pink color. Sakura trees line the Kawazu River for about 4 kilometers, their flower-covered branches making an arch of deep pink over the pathways. There are bright yellow canola flowers along the riverbank, making a spectacular view of flowers with two contrastive colours. "The Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival" is held during the blooming season. Food and drink stalls are lined along the walking path offering local food and souvenirs.

Best time for viewing: Early-February to Early-March

Be mesmerized with 800,000 shibazakura (pink moss) in bloom against the backdrop of Mt Fuji! Shibazakura is a small flower with five heart-shaped petals in various shades of pink, purple and white cover the ground of a wide open area. Their different colors come together to weave a beautiful tapestry, creating a scene that is well worth the visit. Besides, visitors can enjoy a variety of delicious local dishes at the food festival. Souvenirs and an endless supply of Mt. Fuji-themed products are also available for purchase at the souvenir store.

Best time for viewing: Mid-April to Late-May

Renowned for its gorgeous fall foliage, Korankei Valley attracts visitors coming to marvel at the vibrant red and yellow leaves beautifully reflected on the Tomoe River. There are over 4,000 trees of Japanese maples including some giant ginkgo trees that paint the landscape in a stunning yellow and crimson. Along the walking path you’ll find the beautiful bridge over the Tomoe River, Taigetsukyo Bridge is the symbol and best spot to take photos at Korankei.

Kushiro Marsh Hosooka Observatory is the renowned tourist attraction for its beautiful sunset in Kushiro-shitsugen Wetland. Visitors often use the ridgeline of Mt. Oakandake and Mt. Meakandake as the backdrop for photo shooting. Besides, Kushiro River can be seen meandering through the Kushiro-shitsugen Wetland. It is said that majority would like to pay a visit at least once in their lifetime to witness this breath-taking scenery.

JR Kitahama Station is an unmanned train station in the South-Eastern of Abashiri city. This tiny little station consists of a waiting room and a café called Café Teishaba, and its only 50m away from the Sea of Okhotsk in Japan (making it the closest station to the Sea of Okhotsk in Japan). During winter season, the sea is covered with drift ice and Kitahama Station is the only object can be seen from a distance. This is where we can feel the power of mother nature.

Obihiro, situated at Hokkaido’s Tokachi region is famous for its agriculture and dairy farming. With quality productions of wheats, sugars, adzuki red beans, and dairy products, sweets shops are sprouting in Obihiro City and visitors get the chance to taste various flavours of sweets here! Take note pork meat lovers, “Butadon” is a highly recommended local porky dish that combines domestically produced pork, binchotan (high-grade charcoal) with sweet and salty sauce. Get ready to surprise your taste buds!

With JR EAST PASS (Tohoku Area), you can travel across different prefectures in Tohoku Region such as Aomori, Akita and Yamagata with ease! You can use this pass on any 5 days out of a period of 14 days. For example, for a pass valid from October 1st to October 14th, you can use the pass to travel on 1st, 6th, 8th, 13th and 14th of October.

Aomori: Hirosaki Castle is one of the most famous cherry blossom spots in Tohoku. It is a three-storey castle tower and its spacious surroundings are filled with 2,500 cherry trees, cherry blossom tunnels, petal filled moats, picnic areas, and rental rowing boats in spring, which makes it a major venue for cherry blossom viewing from April to May every year. Although the castle is currently under reconstruction, you still get a chance to see how Japanese castles are rejuvenated.

Akita: Kakunodate Samurai District—featuring former samurai residences that hold hundreds of years of legacy—is known for its weeping cherry blossoms in spring, but in the autumn, the fall foliage with bright colours will start decorating the symbolic black fences of the area. There are six samurai houses which are open to public while the others in this samurai living quarters are prohibited to visitors. However, you can still take a stroll around the area and enjoy the autumn foliage around the estate.

Yamagata: Spooky snow experience only at Zao Onsen Ski Resort! The famous "snow monsters" usually occur when water droplets in the air blown by strong winds freeze on the leaves and branches of pine trees. These formations are usually seen near the peak of Zao Ski Resort, from end-December to end-February. Be sure to visit and enjoy the Snow Monster Festival held between 26 Dec 2020 to 28 Feb 2021, when you can see the snow monsters before your very eyes!

Lake Kinrin is situated at Yufuin in Oita Prefecture, and the name Kinrin literally means "Golden Fish Scale". Lake Kinrin’s uniqueness is that from the bottom of the lake, there is a regular spring as well as a hot spring that feed water into the lake. In autumn, you can see beautiful red and yellow leaves surrounding Lake Kinrin. During the cool fall and winter mornings, you can enjoy the wondrous morning mist hanging over the lake surface.

Ibusuki Onsen at Kagoshima prefecture offers distinctive spa experience for its pairing of steamy sand baths on the beach and conventional open-air hot springs. Ibusuki is Kagoshima's most famous hot spring area well known for its excellent seaside location and Sunamushi hot sand baths where the sand is naturally heated by volcanic steam, a style of bathing said to have become popular over 300 years ago.

Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass by JR-Central, a rail pass dedicated for foreign tourists and it offers five consecutive days of unlimited travel on JR-trains, connecting Nagoya with Takayama and Toyama, and Osaka with Kanazawa and Toyama, as well as on buses to Shirakawago.

If you are a pass holder, you can head to Shirakawa-go and neighbouring Gokayama regions from Kansai International Airport directly. This famous World Heritage Site is popular for its traditional Gassho-zukuri farmhouses as the steep thatched roofs resemble the hands of Buddhist monks pressed together in prayer. The historic architectural designs were meant to withstand the large amounts of heavy snow that falls in the region during winter. In autumn, the compound was filled with autumn leaves and gives the best spot for photography.

The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum, the largest dinosaur museum in Japan located in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, is also recognized as one of the world's best three dinosaur museums. The museum includes the 44 mounted dinosaur skeletons, the large prehistoric diorama, and the exhibition representing the evolution of life from the origin of life to the emergence of humankind. The Field Station near the museum attracts many visitors, where they enjoy excavating dinosaur fossils.

Tsuzumi-mon Gate Kanazawa Station is situated at Iishikawa Prefecture, and is also listed as the landmark of Kanazawa. You will be impressed by its modern design with subtle touches of gold and traditional décor. The Tsuzumi-mon gate is built with local Japanese cypress where the gigantic Motenashi dome is meant to mainly protect travellers from the rains and snowfalls typical to the region. What a beautiful masterpiece!

The best way to visit Oboke Gorge, located at Tokushima Prefecture, is by taking a genuine sightseeing specialty train: SHIKOKU MANNAKA SENNEN MONOGATARI. The authentic interior was inspired by Japanese aesthetic and decorated with traditional Japanese house theme. With this privilege, you get to enjoy the beauty inside and outside the train, especially the rocks and a V-shaped valley, which can be seen closely through the window. Onsen (hotsprings) is definitely a to-do in Japan and you must try Dōgo Onsen at Ehime Prefecture. It is known as one of the oldest hotsprings in Japan and it is said to have inspired the bathhouse in the renowned Ghibli movie – Spirited Away. Dōgo Onsen Honkan (Main Building) is a public bath with a three-story wooden structure and is designated as a national important cultural property. Besides, Dogo Onsen also known as the oldest hot spring in Japan, and has been visited by the most prestigious imperial family in Japan since ancient times! To get here, you can use the pass and depart from JR Matsuyama Station and make a transfer at Iyotetsu Railway "JR Matsuyamaekimae line” all the way to Dogo Onsen Station.

Moreover, you can feel the ocean breeze at Shodo Island in Kagawa prefecture. Olive tree is the symbol of Shodo Island, which nurtured by the warm climate. How to reach Shodoshima (Tonosho Port)? Take the Shodoshima Ferry to arrive at Tonosho, then you can take a ride with Olive Bus for sightseeing (No need to extra payment). You will notice its significant white windmill with turning sails and olive trees are grown all over the island, how cool is that!
